He went on to have a successful career in Hollywood, appearing in over 60 films. Gable is perhaps best known for his role as Rhett Butler in Gone with the Wind, for which he won an Academy Award. In addition to his work in film, Gable also served in the United States Army Air Forces during World War II.
He died of a heart attack in 1960 at the age of 59. Today, Gable is remembered as one of the greatest actors of his generation.
James Dean
Even though he only starred in three major films, James Dean remains one of the most iconic actors of the twentieth century. His performances in Rebel Without a Cause and East of Eden helped to define a new style of acting, and his untimely death only added to his legend.
Born in Indiana in 1931, Dean was raised on a farm before moving to California to pursue his dreams of becoming an actor. After appearing in several Broadway productions, he caught the attention of Hollywood studios and was cast in the film East of Eden.
The role launched him to stardom, and he quickly followed up with another hit film, Rebel Without a Cause. However, Dean’s life was cut short when he was killed in a car accident at the age of 24.
